I bake. You donate money to the listed charity that week. You get homemade challah from me.
How it Works
- When you see the post of this week’s challah you need to comment with interest and commit to making a donation by the time allotted.
- I tag or pm you to let you know you get a challah that week.
- Donate to the charity of the week and submit picture of the receipt to me via messenger/text.*
- Arrange pick-up location
- Pick up and enjoy!
*There will be times when I collect payment and will make a donation on behalf of all donors. In these instances, I will be splitting proceeds with the organization. This will be for “complicated” and ingredients or time-heavy flavors or designs. I will always notify when this happens.
The Details
- Challah is given away through my Facebook group. Not a member? Just request to join!
- There are usually 2-4 loaves to give away each week.
- I may not bake every week.
- I may bake earlier in the week and freeze to preserve the freshness.
- If there are several people interested, I may bake more or tag you the following week so you get notified.
- My kitchen is conservative kosher (separate meat and dairy dishes, pots, utensils, use non-heckshered cheese and vegan items), but may not be your level of kashrut. If this concerns you, just ask and we can discuss.
- Most challah is pareve (not meat or dairy) and made on a pareve baking mat with pareve utensils in stainless steel or glass bowl. I will make note when challah is dairy.
- I don’t bake with tree nuts or coconuts, but they are in my house so cross contamination, while unlikely, is possible.
- You are responsible for picking up the challah. There are location options, but ultimately it is on you.
- Shipping: very tricky. It’s expensive to overnight. I can wrap and pack it well for 2-3 shipping but you will be charged for shipping and handling. I am not responsible once the post office has it.
As much as I love baking challah, my challah fun(draisers) all depend on how things are going each week (I have a ft job, pt job, extra-curriculuar stuff, a chronic illness, two kids and a husband who need me sometimes), but I hope to raise/donate at least $54 a month. Thanks for supporting!
About Samantha’s Challah Fun
Similar to other people, the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown period provided me with time to focus on some hobbies, including baking challah. I’ve been baking challah almost weekly since 2015, but started to get creative with flavors and designs around 2018-2019. After some nudging from others, I decided to share my creations with neighbors and friends. When the Russia-Ukraine war started around Purim 2022, I decided to sell hamantaschen in exchange for a donations to Ukraine, and raised over $180. From there I sold challah in exchange for donations to various organizations and created a Facebook group for all those who were interested. Interest has continued and while I still run that group, I have expanded into custom orders. This is a side-thing and it’s only me making the challah in my kitchen, so I appreciate your patience and support!
